The Estate is ideally located to explore not only the stunning north east coast of the island but also the hills surrounding Mount Pantokratour, which in spring are carpeted with beautiful wildflowers, including a rich variety of wild orchids.

From the Rou Estate, guests have a choice of beautiful beaches and bays along the popular north east coast, all within a short drive. The beaches are typically pebble and noted for their cleanliness and clear cobalt blue water.

The nearest beach at Agni is 6km and boasts two of the most popular tavernas in the area (Taverna Agni and Toula’s) as well as a wide selection of boats available to hire from Agni Boats. Along the coast, guests can explore Kalami, famous as the home of the Durrell brothers, Kouloura with its pretty fishing harbour and fish taverna, Kerasia’s excellent swimming beach, St Stephanos’ popular seaside resort with tavernas, cocktail bar, supermarket and boat hire and Avlaki’s sailing school, riding centre and beach tavernas. In between these bays there are many unpopulated coves to explore. There are also a variety of watersports available in Barbati and Nissaki to the south of Agni.

For walkers and birdwatchers, the Rou Estate lies in an area of natural beauty in the hills with many beautiful walks right from the village steps. A special guide to walks in the hills around the Rou Estate is currently being drawn up by the owners. More adventurous walks can be found on the Corfu Trail and around neighbouring hilltop villages of Santa, Mengoulas and the UNESCO heritage site of Old Perithea which dates back to the 14th century. The nature reserves of Eremetis by Avlaki beach and Antinióti lagoon by Ag. Spiridon are also a short drive away.

Antinióti lagoon is home to a variety of wildlife including terrapins, marsh harriers, herons and nightingales. There are a number of good walks along the headlands which lead to quieter beaches, including the sandy beach of Ayios Spiridhon which has a pretty church and taverna.
